Paul Hindmarsh  has commissioned over thirty new works for the brass band medium, either through the BBC or through the Brass Band Heritage Trust, which he founded in 1995. He contributed the chapter on the brass band repertoire of the 20th century to The British Brass Band (OUP, 2000) and has written a study of the wind and brass music of John McCabe. He is also editing the complete works of the composer Wilfred Heaton, whose biography he is researching.

   Wilfred Heaton (1918 - 2000)         
 
 
The Heaton Collection is a four CD series on the SP&S label (World of Brass) researched, devised and produced by Paul Hindmarsh, with Brian Hillson
The complete works for brass band of Wilred Heaton, with many specially edited or realised by Paul Hindmarsh and Howard Snell, featuring the Black Dyke and Interrnational Staff Bands.

  Frank Bridge (1879 - 1941) 
 
 Paul Hindmarsh is an acknowledged authority on the music of the English composer Frank Bridge. His Thematic Catalogue [1982, rev. 2004(unpublished)] has become the standard reference work on this composer. Since then he has authored many articles and CD notes on Bridge’s music, including the acclaimed orchestral music series from Chandos, for which he was also the music editor and programme consultant. Paul has prepared many new works by Bridge for publication, and has also adapted a number of theatre and radio works by his pupil Benjamin Britten for the concert hall, including Johnson over Jordan and King Arthur.
