Annie Laurie – Variations for cornet (or euphonium) and brass band (Wilfred Heaton)

£50.00

Wilfred Heaton composed his Variations on Annie Laurie in 1938, originally for cornet and piano. He was an admirer of the music of Erik Leidzen and the influence of the Swedish-American composer can be detected in the easy flow of the music. Heaton subsequently made three versions of the work with brass band accompaniment. This edition is based on the final version, which was prepared for Howard Snell in 1992.

After a dramatic opening, the music takes the soloist on a white-knuckle ride of virtuosity in three contrasting variations.
